Lifestyle Family Fitness Changed my Summer

How Lifestyle Family Fitness Changed My Summer

By: Sarah Keverenge
How has lifestyle changed my summer? I haven’t always been overweight, but the older I became, the more I gained weight. I’ve tried to lose weight and when I did, it poured right back on, like thick maple syrup on pancakes. Sometimes I ended up with more weight than I originally started with. I have tried to diet, but I did not exercise enough. I eventually fell right back into the old habits.

Summer 2007 really made a difference in my life. During the summer I ordinarily stayed at home without any physical activity. I lazed about like a couch potato yet I knew it wasn’t healthy. I exercised sometimes, but it was not enough. The motivation was not there. This past summer, that routine changed drastically. My parents enrolled the whole family at Lifestyle Fitness Center in June. At first I was skeptical, that it would do me no good. Luckily Lifestyle had a free teen summer membership. I thought the gym was definitely going to be a huge wet blanket on my summer, but boy was I wrong.

When I started working out it was not easy. I have been a cheerleader and gymnast, so I knew what to expect. Still, it was difficult to get back into a routine after being inactive for so long. The first few days I went to the gym, I woke up the next morning sore; I thought it would take a bulldozer to dig me out of bed. Seeing all that equipment overwhelmed me. I took the classes, such as, Zumba, Body Step, and Body Combat, in addition to working out. After attending the gym I gradually developed a love for exercising. I began attending the gym twice a day at least four days a week. I had more energy, and I slept like a baby at night. I also loved my new figure, and the compliments I received from my friends.

I have had a couple personal training sessions, which helped me learn how to eat right and get the most out of my workout. After 2 months membership, I am still going to the gym even after school.

Many teens struggle with their weight. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 5.3 million overweight young people in the U.S., and I was one of them. The chances of getting diseases like diabetes and heart disease are greater. This summer Lifestyle Fitness Center definitely changed my life. I was given advice on how to exercise and eat well in order to reduce body fat and build muscles. I am forever grateful to Lifestyle Fitness Center for helping me to reduce my risk of developing these diseases and also teaching me that exercising can be fun.
