This spring, Lifestyle Family Fitness will sponsor the Good Life Games in Pinellas
County, Florida. The Good Life Games is a non-profit organization that promotes
healthy lifestyles and encourages adults 50+ to enhance the value and vitality of
their lives through athletic and recreational competition, social events, volunteerism
and other activities.
Throughout the year, local and regional events, such as the Good Life Games, are
held and some of the competitions are qualifiers for the Senior Games of Florida.
Each of the local senior games competitions is sanctioned by the Florida Sports
Foundation (FSF), the official sports promotion and development organization of
the State of Florida. The FSF and Florida Senior Games State Championship are members
of the National Senior Games Association.
“We are excited to host the Good Life Games this year at our clubs,” said Dan McDonald,
Vice President of Marketing for Lifestyle Family Fitness. “These active adults are
a great testimony to a healthy and fit lifestyle, proving age isn’t a factor when
you incorporate physical activity and training into your everyday life.”
The competitions held April 19th through April 23rd at five Lifestyle Family Fitness
locations are Bench Press Endurance, Power Lifting and Fitness Challenge (two minutes
each of push ups, sit ups, and pull ups). These events, are held exclusively at
Lifestyle, unique to the Pinellas County Goodlife Games for the second year.
“Lifestyle Family Fitness is a great partner for us. They provide an ideal environment
for the strength and conditioning events. We look forward to a great turnout of
participants and exciting competitions this year,” said Bob Simons, PhD, MS, CHES,
President, Board of Trustees for Good Life Games, Pinellas County.
In addition to the events held at Lifestyle Family Fitness, there are over 50 athletic
competitions and recreational games for individuals and teams offered throughout
Pinellas County for 2,000+ adults aged 50-90 competing for gold, silver and bronze
medals in dozens of divisions.
Currently 70 percent of athletes are 50-69 years old, and 75 percent are males.
Over 80 Florida cities and 20 states are represented each year. With the maturing
of Baby Boomers, and the coming of age of Title IX female athletes, the Good Life
Games is actively pursuing dynamic growth. Events offer something for every interest
and level of “personal best”— from intense competitions like Track and Field, Softball,
Swimming, Tennis, and Cycling, to the mental challenges of Senior Smarts and Mahjong.
The Good Life Games qualifies participants finishing in first through fifth place
in each age division in 14 events for the Florida Senior Games Championship. The
top two winners may advance to the National Senior Games held every two years. The
2009 National Senior Games will be held in Palo Alto, CA, from August 1st-15th,
2009.
