As the holidays approach, the inevitable rise in blood pressure and stress level
creeps up and can often leave us feeling overwhelmed and downright exhausted. Pile
a bunch of holiday parties, Thanksgiving Day meals and your New Year’s wine and
champagne on top and we have a recipe for disaster. Disaster in the name of 5 –
10 pounds on the scale and a body and mind that feels like it’s been run over by
a bulldozer.
Our natural inclination during these times is to cut back on our workouts – doing
so gives us one more precious hour in the day to get things done. Skipping the workout
will leave us less tired too, right?
In fact, skipping your workout is the very last thing you should do when you’re
feeling frazzled and fatigued. Continuing our workouts relieves stress, keeps us
strong and healthy and gives us more energy to get those holiday chores done. It
also staves off those extra pounds making our leap into the New Year that much more
enjoyable!
But, how do we make sure that our first step is to the workout instead of to the
grocery store, the mall, or even (can we say it) to the couch? We know that this
is a tough choice to make, and we are here to help. Lifestyle Family Fitness has
the perfect solution for you – Group Fitness!
The benefits of Group Fitness are many, from building cardio endurance to improving
muscle tone and flexibility; but there are a few key benefits which make Group Fitness
the perfect choice for the holiday season - when it is extra tough to get your “booty”
walking toward the workout instead of the mall!
One of the most overlooked benefits is the value of the camaraderie and accountability
that you find in the Group Fitness room. This companionship can be just the thing
you need to get you to workout on those days when you just don’t have the motivation
yourself. Group Fitness instructors and fellow participants not only provide inspiration
during class to push you to improved results, they create an expectation and a built-in
accountability system to get you to the club when you otherwise might skip your
workout. In short, they help you stick to your plan!
You can't completely eliminate stress from your life, but you can certainly learn
to manage your stress in a way that leaves you less vulnerable to its negative effects.
Using mental and physical strategies that decrease anxiety, promote relaxation and
get the body moving, we can significantly reduce the negative affects of stress
during the holidays.
Try one of our cardio classes like RPM or BODYCOMBAT, both which promote the release
of endorphins to help relieve stress and promote positive feelings. Or slip into
one of our Mind Body programs that incorporate both the mind and the body in your
workout. Sometimes the quietest exercises can be the most rejuvenating, and during
the holidays, the extra focus on your mental, and well as your physical well-being,
can be just what you need to gracefully and energetically make it through to the
New Year!
Average caloric expenditure for our core Group Fitness (Les Mills) programs is
between 500 – 700 calories. Of course, what you get out of any work out depends
on what you put into it, but the potential to burn is right there for the taking!
For participants who commit to a regular and varied class schedule, results will
be seen quite quickly in cardio endurance, muscle toning, flexibility, balance,
and core strength. And best of all, if you commit to these programs during the holiday
season, you’ll have no need to worry about indulging in those mashed potatoes or
pumpkin pie. Enjoy it and come see us in the morning!
So, what are you waiting for? Solid results, built-in accountability and stress
relief – what’s not to like? Don’t let the holidays get the best of you. Take control
of your mind and your body during these difficult months and join us in the Group
Fitness room for one of our calorie and stress burning workouts. We’ll be looking
for you…
